Basic Agility

Agility is a terrific way of building that bond between you and your dog. It is an enjoyable way to train those behaviours you want with your dog as well as fun way to exercise with your dog.

In order to complete the Agility course you enroll in a 4 week Agility Skills course and you then roll straight into an 8 week Beginner Agility course. The Agility Skills course is a pre-requisite to the Beginner Agility Course.

Your dog must be at least eleven (11) months of age and under reasonable off-lead control e.g. should come back when called.

All of our training is done completely with positive reinforcement hence we don't use check chains, only a flat collar or gentle leader/halti. We also use a clicker to indicate to the dog when they have completed the correct behaviour.

In the PADS Agility Skills course handlers and dogs are introduced to some agility equipment, learn handling skills and acquire knowledge on rewarding and motivating their dogs to create the drive required for a successful Agility Dog . The skills learned in this class are essential for success once you commence the Beginners Agility Class. The PADS Beginners Agility Course introduces dog and handler to the balance of the agility equipment in a gradual fashion. This is for the safety of the handler and the dog. This course also includes techniques for playing games with your dog and exercises to ensure your dog has the required fitness for completing the obstacles of an agility trial. During this course, you will also be taught further dog handling techniques required to negotiate your dog through a sequence of obstacles. Course notes and training tools are included in the course fee.

Dogs need to be fully vaccinated and you need to bring your vaccination certificate along so we can take a copy for our records.

Contact PADS for further information regarding course times and start dates.
